Special Projects Portfolio
"Special Projects" at mapformation refers to projects that were developed outside (or in excess) to client requests, with the intent that various organizations viewing our web site might see these generic graphics and elect to use them for their own custom applications. These types of projects are usually done as our firm's attempt to provide a community service, while increasing the exposure and visibility that our firm receives. To view any of these images in greater detail, simply click on the corresponding thumbnail graphic and you will be taken to a page that will allow you to view these images in their entirety. You may also view a slideshow of selected examples from our portfolio, or chose examples by client name using the following list:
- Project: Australian Open Tennis Complex in Melbourne, Australia (Horizontal Orientation)
- Software Used: None: Hand-Rendered
- Comments: This graphic provided a wonderful opportunity to illustrate the Australian Open tennis complex in support of poster and puzzle sales for a Vermont-based retailer. Artwork was created as a hand-rendered piece, then digitized into high-resolution .tif format for use in Adobe Photoshop and other "raster" illustration applications.
- Project: Australian Open Tennis Complex in Melbourne, Australia (Vertical Orientation)
- Project: Map of Galesburg, Illinois (USA), circa 1858
- Software Used: Vector: Corel Draw
- Comments: This graphic was a very unique opportunity to draw not what "is" or "will be", as is our typical task at mapformation, but an opportunity to draw what used to be. Over the course of several weeks in the Summer of 2006, our firm worked to develop a view of a section of Galesburg, Illinois as it appeared in 1858. Artwork was created as a hand-rendered piece, then digitized into high-resolution .tif format for use in Adobe Photoshop and other "raster" illustration applications.
- Project: Skyway Map of Downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota (USA)
- Software Used: None: Hand-Rendered
- Comments: Designed to fill a void that people had mentioned to our firm related to the need for a basic map that was easily delivered in black and white format (especially for faxing purposes). This graphic is actually the most-visited page on the mapformation.com web site, as literally hundreds of individuals will view and download a copy of this graphic on a monthly basis!
- Project: Detailed 3D Perspective Map of Downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota (USA)
- Software Used: Vector: Corel Draw
- Comments: Even though our firm has completed hundreds of projects for clients including Fortune 500 firms and some of the largest college or university campuses in the United States, we still periodically are asked if we can "handle" the drawing of large, dense areas. This graphic, developed by designer David Burley, should help to put that nagging question to rest! For commercial real estate companies, municipal and non-profit groups, tourism industry professionals and others based in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area, they could work with us to develop custom versions of this beautiful depiction of their city for any number of print, signage or web-based applications.

- Project: Fictitious Urban Redevelopment Illustration
