Our Strategy
Our goal at mapformation is simple: Becoming the preferred one stop shop and "resident expert" for all mapping service needs within our target markets of higher education, medical/corporate campuses and "destination" properties throughout North America and (eventually) the rest of the planet.
We like to think of ourselves as a company that likes to "zig" while a majority of our industry prefers to "zag". Many of our competitors service a client base within roughly a 50-mile radius of their headquarters. Our firm prefers to promote ourselves nationally/internationally. Many of our competitors will pay thousands of dollars for annual leases of office space, which are then passed on to their clients. Our firm works out of a series of home-based offices. Many of our competitors will require their clients to pay for travel expenses in order to spend a significant amount of time walking a property. Our firm completes 90+ percent of our design projects without ever setting foot on a property, thereby saving our clients thousands of dollars in travel reimbursements.
The most important distinction, however, between our firm and a majority of our competitors is our ability to offer a broad array of services, looks and styles in order to provide desirable, affordable solutions to our clients. We are (we believe) the only mapping firm in North America that can design 3D perspective (illustrated) maps in vector, raster, hand-rendered and 360-degree formats. We also offer a number of creative post-design solutions for packaging one's map artwork in print, signage or web-based output, which is a rarity in our industry. For a brief summary of several of the solutions offered by our firm, you may download an eight-page overview in .pdf format.
mapformation also works to establish mutually-beneficial partnerships and agreements with designers or firms providing products and services that serve to compliment our existing offerings, and we are ALWAYS looking for new and creative opportunities to partner on a variety of projects related to the design and conveyance of map and navigational information. If you are interested in exploring an opportunity to work with our firm and think you have a product or service that would fit nicely within our ever-growing array of offerings, please contact Derek Tonn at 507-227-3338 (phone) or (email).
